About the Journal

Welcome to Impact Surgery

Impact Surgery is an open-access journal dedicated to advancing surgical practice, clinical research, and global surgical health. Our aim is to publish research that strengthens the evidence base for surgery, supports innovation, and encourages debate about the future of surgical care.

We publish work that is methodologically rigorous and clinically relevant, covering early and late-phase research, health systems studies, surgical technology, education, and policy analysis. Our focus is on supporting high-quality research that can improve patient care, drive health system improvements, and respond to the challenges facing surgery in an evolving world.

Our Approach to Publishing

We believe publishing should be fair, fast, and transparent. At Impact Surgery, artificial intelligence is used at every stage of the publishing process, from submission checks to peer review support and post-publication analysis. These tools allow us to work more efficiently and consistently, but all decisions remain under the careful oversight of our editorial team.

Impact Surgery is led by Professor Aneel Bhangu, an internationally recognised surgical academic. Our editorial standards combine expert review with technological support to create a publishing experience that is clear, efficient, and respectful of authors' work.

We are committed to rapid editorial decisions. Submissions that are not suitable for review are returned quickly, allowing authors to move forward without unnecessary delay. For manuscripts that proceed to review, we aim to maintain clear communication and fast turnaround times throughout the process.

Upholding Standards and Stimulating Debate

We assess all submissions based on the strength of their methodology, the quality of their reporting, and their potential impact on surgical practice and knowledge. We welcome original research, trials, observational studies, reviews, and discussion articles that contribute to advancing surgery and improving outcomes.

We also aim to stimulate open debate. High-quality critical commentary, discussion pieces, and work challenging accepted practice are all encouraged. We believe that discussion and disagreement are essential to the progress of surgery and healthcare.

Impact Surgery does not publish animal research. Our scope is focused on human health, surgery, and healthcare systems.

Open Access and Independence

All articles published in Impact Surgery are immediately and permanently open access. We believe that research should be freely available to anyone who can benefit from it, whether in clinical practice, research, or education.

Impact Surgery was founded in 2023 and is published by the Impact Health Publishing Group, an independent, not-for-profit organisation committed to building new, ethical routes for scientific publishing. Founded in 2022, you can learn more about our publishing group at impact-journals.org.

Join the Impact Surgery Community

We invite surgeons, researchers, innovators, and healthcare leaders to contribute to Impact Surgery. We aim to build a global community that values research quality, innovation, and open debate, and that works together to improve surgical care across the world.
